Just Another Gushing, Nonsensical Post About The X Files
September 12th 2008 13:21
Just picking myself up off the floor (after watching Millenium) to say that The X Files is really affecting me. I'm flushed and giddy after finishing season six and beginning season seven today.
I've cried four times (Redux II, Emily, Triangle, The Sixth Extinction: Amor Fati). Gasped and shouted at my TV screen at least twelve times (especially when Diana Fowley is around). Laughed more times than I can remember. Been grossed out nearly every episode. Occasionally experienced boredom. Often been confused. And have come to treasure those rare tremble-inducing moments littered like gems throughout the series. Especially:
The final scene of Amor Fati: In a rare display of vulnerability, Scully breaks down in front of Mulder and they actually share an honest moment as they comfort one another. The way GA's voice quivers when Scully begins to speak made me well up instantly. She's so upset to be telling him that Diana Fowley was murdered (hooray), even though she basically hated the woman. I love her character so much.
The final scenes of Redux II: The intensity of the three paralled scenes- Mulder's interrogation, Scully's deathbed prayer and CSM's assassination- made me forget to breathe, and as the three stories came to a head the tears began to fall. I was in a glass case of emotion- relief, happiness, shock, sadness, whatever.
The Kiss: An hour later and I'm still trembling. Nuff said.
We shippers do it tough, and it's the little moments that count. Like in Firewalker, where Mulder caresses Scully's cheek after the spore thingy has popped out of the guy's neck. I watched that part maybe five times. The scene where Mulder teaches Scully to play baseball in The Unnatural- watched it eight times. Mulder and Scully dance to Walking In Memphis (in slow motion, no less!)- seven times. And I won't say how many times I watched The Kiss. Let's just say enough to make me practically pass out. It's safe to say that any moment between Mulder and Scully sets my heart aflutter.
I think season six is my favourite so far. Gillian Anderson's hair looked best in seasons three and seven. I will never again watch Teso Dos Bichos (killer cats?) or Teliko (snooze). Other than the usual outstanding episodes, I especially liked The Blessing Way, Trevor, Monday, Mind's Eye, Quagmire and quite a few more. I no longer care that my friends call me a geek because I watch six episodes a day. Life is good!
Whether popular opinion is true- the show starts to suck after season 7- remains to be seen. But it's been a rollercoaster so far, and I'm ready to take the plunge again.
